Taking a fingerprint impression

How to take a good fingerprint impression using a 2 part moulding compound.

Stage 1: Wet clay

Learn how to handle the wet clay, roll it perfectly evenly and add your fingerprint or handprint impression.
You can also add optional personalisation at this stage.
Cut and shape your clay using cutters.

Once you have done that, your clay needs to dry. I will discuss different options for drying including air drying (no equipment necessary), oven drying, hot plate and dehydrators.

Stage 2: Dry Clay

Now that the clay is fully dried, we I will demonstrate how to add personalisation such as a name by hand to the front or back of the charm.

The hole will be added and the charm will be refined ready for firing.

Stage 3: Firing

I will show you how to fire the clay by hand using a kitchen gas torch.  I will also discuss firing clay in a kiln.

Stage 4: Polishing and finishing

In this module I will cover how to sand and finish your charm to a beautiful high shine mirror finish.
I will show you how to do this by hand and also by using a power tool such as a Dremel or flex shaft.

Stage 5: Finishing touches

In this module I will show you how to enhance the detail in the print by adding liver of sulphur.
I will also show you how to add a jump ring so that your charm is ready to be hung on a chain.
